Recommended Grains for Type AB

Grains, especially whole grains, are essential to type AB’s diet.

Type AB’s can eat grains one or more times daily, but should select more-concentrated whole grains. Since wheat slows down metabolism and causes inefficient calorie use, type AB’s who want to lose weight should eliminate it.

Type AB’s with a pronounced mucus condition caused by asthma or frequent infections also should limit wheat, which causes mucus production.

Type AB’s do best when muscle tissues are slightly alkaline, so they must balance intake of acid-forming wheat with alkaline foods to preserve the acid/alkaline balance.

Type AB’s benefit from a diet rich in rice rather than pasta, although semolina pasta once or twice a week is fine. Avoid corn and buckwheat in favor of oats and rye. Limit bran and wheat germ to once a week.
